Overview

The town of Clarendon is in the southeastern part of Orleans County, just southwest of the village of Holley. The east town line borders the town of Sweden in Monroe County; Barre is to the west, Murray is to the north, and the south borders Genesee County. Fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities are big here. The Holley Central School District serves the area. The village of Brockport, with all of the amenities of a college town, is only 10 minutes away. Agriculture always has been the main industry here.


Essentials

With this being a rural community, most of the people here shop in nearby Holley or in Brockport. The post office is at 4540 Holley Byron Road. Lakeside Memorial Hospital is in Brockport, just a 10-minute drive. The Holley Central School District has an elementary school and a middle-high school. For grocery shopping, there’s a Wegmans supermarket in Brockport. A wide variety of other shopping is available in Brockport, from a Walmart superstore to a funky downtown district.



Recreation & Entertainment

Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and hiking are all popular outdoor activities here. The College at Brockport hosts a variety of events, from lectures to concerts and movies. A bowling center and movie theater also can be found in Brockport. The Iroquois Natural Wildlife Refuge is a short drive west. The city of Batavia is a short drive southwest. Batavia Downs, a harness-racing track with a casino, is there, along with a downtown mall and the Batavia Muckdogs, a professional baseball team.



Transportation & Traffic

Clarendon is at the crossroads of Route 237 (heading north-south) and Route 31A (east-west). Route 31, a bigger east-west highway, is just north of 31A. The Thruway is about 18 miles to the south.



Pros & Cons

You have the land, the affordability and the wide-open spaces here, with the convenience of being close to both Brockport and Batavia.
