Overview

The town of Oakfield is in north-central Genesee County, bordered to the north by Orleans County, to the south by Batavia, to the east by Elba and to the west by the town of Alabama. Oakfield also contains the village of Oakfield and the hamlet of East Oakfield. Dairy and vegetable farms and a number of farm stands can be found throughout the town, which remains mostly agricultural. Oak Orchard Creek, a popular fishing spot, flows across the north part of the town, and the Oak Orchard Wildlife Management Area, a conservation area, also is in northern Oakfield.


Essentials

The town has a variety of small businesses, such as a grocery store, flower shop, ice cream shop and pharmacy. For a wider variety of shopping, residents take a short drive to Batavia, where you’ll find retailers like Walmart, Target, Kmart and Sears, and supermarkets like Top’s Friendly Markets. Batavia also is where the regional hospital, United Memorial Medical Center, is based 



Recreation & Entertainment

Hunters, fishermen and –women and other outdoor types love the nearby Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, Oak Orchard Wildlife Management Area and the Tonawanda Wildlife Area. The refuge – which has several large pools, meadows, fields, swamps and woodlands – is a great place to take in nature. Annual events held in town include a Labor Day celebration in the town park, a Halloween party and Christmas in Oakfield. Scopano Lanes on Pearl Street is a bowling center in town 



Transportation & Traffic

Route 63 runs diagonally through the heart of Oakfield. Route 262 runs east from Oakfield. Route 98, heading north-south, is just east of Oakfield, and the Thruway is only a few miles to the south.



Pros & Cons

Small-town country living is the draw here, with winding country roads passing picturesque farms. Proximity to wildlife areas is a plus for nature lovers, and the city of Batavia – the commercial and cultural center of the county – is only six miles away.
