Welcome to Villenova, NY

Overview

Villenova is a town on the eastern edge of Chautauqua County, bordered to the north by the town of Hanover (and the villages of Silver Creek and Forestville), to the east by Cattaraugus County (town of Dayton), to the south by Cherry Creek, and to the west by Arkwright. Villenova is another sparsely populated town (population just over 1,000) with lots of wide-open spaces, including several hamlets, East Mud Lake and the west branch of Conewango Creek, a popular fishing spot. Outdoor activities are the popular attractions here, like hiking, camping and hunting. Buffalo is about an hour’s drive to the northeast.

Essentials

Shopping can be done in neighboring towns. For grocery shopping, you’ll find a Super Duper and the South Dayton Supermarket just east of Villenova in Dayton (in Cattaraugus County) and the Crossroads Grocery in Cherry Creek (about 10 miles south). Nearby Dunkirk has a Tops Friendly Markets store and an Aldi’s store. For retail shopping, the best options are in Dunkirk and Fredonia, both about 15 miles from Villenova. Dunkirk has a JC Penney store in D & F Plaza on Central Avenue, where you’ll also find stores like Big Lots and Maurice’s, a women’s clothing shop. Vineyard Plaza has a Peebles store and a T.J. Maxx store. Nearby Fredonia has a Walmart Supercenter and more. South Dayton has a hardware stores and other small shops.

Recreation & Entertainment

Once again, most of the things to do in Villenova are outdoor activities. Fishing in Conewango Creek, hunting, hiking and camping are the big draws around here. Forestville is home to Lana’s The Little House, a storybook English cottage. For more things to do, head to Fredonia, where you’ll find attractions like the Rockefeller Arts Center and the Fredonia Opera House, or to Dunkirk, which has popular lakeside attractions, a train museum and the annual Chautauqua County Fair.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 83, which heads north-south, intersects Route 322 near the hamlet of Balcom Corners.

Pros & Cons

Villenova is one of the smallest towns by population in Chautauqua County. Consequently, this is a lightly developed town with plenty of wide-open space and little development.
